Sustainability
BIASP recognises climate change as a serious threat to human health and is committed to take actions in response to this climate crisis.
Our Sustainability Lead
BIASP has recently appointed a new sustainability lead—Bethan Davies. She is a stroke consultant in Brighton.
Sustainability Policy
Background
The climate crisis is a health crisis. Global temperatures have already increased by 1.2 degrees since pre-industrial times due to human activity, mainly from the burning of fossil fuels.
Position Statement
BIASP identifies sustainable healthcare as healthcare which meets needs of today’s population without compromising the wellbeing of future generations.
Role of Sustainability
In 2021 BIASP appointed a Sustainability Lead to our executive committee.
Our Association
BIASP does not now, and will not in the future, have any direct or indirect financial investments in fossil fuels.
Carbon Footprint
This year Dr Bethan Davies, with support from See Sustainability, has calculated the BIASP Carbon Footprint for 2023 – 2024 as part of the BIASP strategy to respond to climate change.
BIASP is a member of the UK Health Alliance on Climate Change – an alliance of UK-based health organisations working together to raise awareness of the links between climate change and health, empower health professionals to advocate for better responses to climate change and influence change by encouraging decision makers to strengthen policies that protect public health from climate change.
We support the UKHACC commitments for member organisations and are working on achieving these as an organisation. CLICK HERE
